Viewing Patent Families in Amplified
Understanding the full patent family is a key part of patent analysis. Amplified’s Family Viewer makes it fast and easy to see all related family members at a glance — directly from your search results.
Opening the Family Viewer
From the search results view, you’ll see links for:
- Simple family
- Extended family
Clicking on that will open a Family Viewer modal, showing all family members grouped by application ID.
What you’ll see in the Family Viewer
The Family Viewer displays:
- Application ID
- Publications – All linked publications, which you can click to open directly.
- Earliest Publication Date
- Application Date
- Grant Date

You can sort by any column header to quickly reorganize the list.
📝 Extended family will only display when grouping by Extended family and only if available. Not all patents have an Extended or Simple family. Some patents do not receive family data until after their publication, so you may find that this changes over time.
Legal Status Indicators
Each row shows a color-coded legal status icon on the left:
- 🟢 Green: Alive
- 🔴 Red: Dead
- 🟠 Orange: Uncertain
Hover over the icon to see the most recent legal status event.
Click on the icon to go to the patent’s full text page, where you can view the complete legal status history.
⚠️ Important: Legal status data is complex and may not always reflect the most recent changes. Always confirm with the relevant national register and seek appropriate legal counsel. Amplified’s indicators are meant to help you triage and prioritize quickly.
